Fenian Street
WSD were pleased to undertake the draughting of the structural and architectural steel elements of a development in Dublin for Rivertempus Ltd. The job consisted of main frame, fire escape stairs, walkways and overhead canopies in on a site on Fenian Street.
The job was quite challenging as the development was located in a tight, inner-city site. The building is an old listed structure which had to be retained and developed into a four story apartment block. A detailed survey needed to be carried out as the building site was wedge shaped and there were many factors which had to be taken into account such as the existing skeleton structure and also the adjoining buildings on either side.
The main frames were fitted with the onsite tower crane. However, the fire escape staircase structure had to be fitted after the tower crane had been removed from site as it was to be fitted on the same footprint. It also had to be fitted in a courtyard with no access to get materials in. For this reason, the stairs, support structure and canopy had to be detailed in such a way that it could be delivered in manageable sections which would be lifted over the main building and into the courtyard, with the aid of a mobile crane which was set up on the street.
As this was such a bespoke job, it proved to be a perfect case study for our Hololens headsets with Trimble Connect application. The Hololens allowed us to take our model from the screen in the office and superimpose it in the desired position site. This gave us the confidence in knowing that the structure was going to fit, before any fabrication took place.
